Deuteronomy 6:6-9 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Turn off the TV and start reading

The fun part of having kids is watching them mimic things you do. OK, yeh I admit…we have all had those moments when our kid mimics something they should not! And we become totally mortified. But, there are times too when they mimic something and it’s cute.

My favorite thing Preston does is read books to me. Of course he is not actually reading but he combines the memory from me reading him the story with pictures on the pages and makes up his own version. Having him do this makes him use his imagination, mind, and gives me a chance to be proud of him (which all kids love!).

I encourage all parents to read to your children starting early as a few weeks old. Who cares if they are not actually old enough to pay attention, or comprehend…it gives them a chance to hear your voice and starts building bonding time. Later on if it is continued is definitely builds a foundation for vocabulary.

Books consume our house. I love reading to my little guy…and I love when he reads to me!
